【VR Virtual Reality Case】 Immersive Disaster Prevention Education|2020 National Chi Nan University - Landslide and Debris Flow Simulation
Project Design Concept: Disaster prevention education is often limited to textbook images, making it difficult for students to truly grasp the impact and causes of disasters. This project was developed in collaboration with National Chi Nan University, using virtual reality (VR) technology to create a safe, high-fidelity disaster simulation environment. Through 3D modelling, the geographical setting of a landslide and debris flow event was reconstructed, allowing participants to observe the process of a geological disaster first-hand under completely safe conditions. The result turns abstract academic theory into vivid visual memory.
Interactive Experience Flow:
- Virtual Scene Transition: Users put on a VR head-mounted display (compatible with HTC Focus2 / Oculus Quest2) and are instantly transported from a classroom to a mountain site.
- Environmental Observation and Triggering: Users observe geological features through a 360-degree view while the system simulates environmental factors such as heavy rainfall and ground movement.
- Dynamic Disaster Simulation: A dramatic real-time depiction of debris flow surging downhill is presented, accompanied by voice or on-screen narration that conveys accurate disaster prevention and geological knowledge.
