【Physical Button Interaction】 Piecing Together Forest Railway Memories | 2024 ITF National Forest Pavilion - Alishan Mini Train Two-Player Race

Project Design Concept: To showcase the appeal of the Alishan Forest Railway, we designed a two-player racing game for the National Forest Pavilion that incorporates physical button controls.

The puzzle carrier is designed as a digital forest mini train. Players use custom physical buttons on the tabletop to control the carriage patterns. This mechanical-feel operation brings back the fun of a control panel. The competitive atmosphere of a two-player match also encourages players to pay close attention to the beautiful details of the forest railway.

Interactive Experience Flow:

  • Two-Player Race Start: Two players face a large screen, each controlling a virtual train with four carriages.
  • Strategic Button Controls: The tabletop has two large buttons — one to "switch pattern" (change the puzzle piece on the current carriage) and one to "move to next" (lock the current carriage and advance to the next one).
  • Hand-Eye Coordination Challenge: Players must stay sharp. Once a carriage pattern is confirmed correct, they quickly move to the next. The first player to complete all four carriages correctly wins and enjoys the satisfaction of seeing the train depart.
