【Motion-Sensing Fitness Interaction】 Earth Slim-Down Plan|2023 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Expo - Carbon Reduction Dumbbell Challenge
Project Design Concept: The first step in losing weight is controlling calories. The first step in reducing carbon is understanding emissions. Starlite Technology designed a motion-sensing game for the Plastics Center called **"Earth Slim-Down: Carbon {Reduction} Challenge"**. We transformed dry ESG data into approachable 3D visuals and invited the public to become personal trainers for the Earth. Players build an understanding of carbon emissions through "everyday choices", then use Kinect motion-sensing technology to physically perform dumbbell-lifting movements — experiencing firsthand how to help an overweight Earth shed its excess carbon load.
Interactive Experience Flow:
- Daily Carbon Footprint Check (Q&A): Before the game begins, players make lifestyle scenario choices (for example: iced latte or hot Americano for breakfast?). The system calculates and displays in real time how much carbon your choices generate (e.g. 43.8 kg CO2e), helping people realise that everyday habits leave a carbon footprint.
- Motion-Sensing Carbon Reduction Exercise: In the main game, a 3D Earth character on screen lifts a barbell. Players stand in front of the screen and use Kinect to detect both-hand movements, simulating an **"overhead dumbbell press"**.
- Fat-Burning Showdown: Within a 30-second time limit, players must rapidly repeat the pressing motion. Each successful full extension of both arms reduces the carbon value on screen. After the game ends, the screen displays "Low-carbon living is my everyday!" and generates a personalised carbon-reduction score QR code for players to scan and keep.
