【AR Virtual Try-On】 Railway Time Dressing Room|2020 TRA Bento Festival - Motion-Sensing Uniform Change Across the Generations

Project Design Concept: As part of the 2020 TRA Bento Festival — themed around "Reviving Memories" — we used AR motion-sensing virtual try-on technology to build a time machine for railway enthusiasts. We created digital 3D models of TRA's historic uniforms worn by conductors, station staff and service personnel across a century of railway history. Visitors do not need to change clothes. They simply stand in front of the screen, and motion-sensing interaction detects their body shape and "dresses" them in classic uniforms from different eras. The experience lets visitors enjoy role-playing while bringing to life the evolution and cultural significance of TRA uniforms through interactive technology.

Interactive Experience Flow:

  • Skeleton Detection and Positioning: Visitors stand in the sensing zone. The system detects their body shape and skeleton in real time, fitting the virtual uniform precisely onto the visitor and moving naturally as the body moves.
  • Wave to Switch Eras: With an intuitive wave of the hand, visitors can browse through uniforms from different years and roles — such as early khaki uniforms and modern navy uniforms — much like flipping through a photo album.
  • Digital Keepsake Photo: Once visitors choose their favourite look, the system counts down and takes a photo automatically, generating a unique "Railway Worker for a Day" commemorative image that visitors can scan and download.
